Talk to your friend. If your family is disapproving, try to meet with the missionaries at your friends house. Go to church meetings. You will be taunted no matter what you do - there are always disapproving people. However, when your family is disapproving it is especially difficult... Talk to the missionaries, and another good thing (Pinkadot mentioned this and I wholeheartedly agree) is to pray... Pray that you will know what is right, and especially you can pray for your family, that at the very least they will respect your decisions. I'm going to have to say you should study all the religions, but I can especially relate to studying LDS. Read the Book of Mormon, pray about it, meet with the missionaries w/ your LDS friend... I think you will learn that it's a great church. Like I said, pray for your family that at the least they will stop making fun of you, but really that they will realize the great truth you have found and they will join you. Good luck!

First of all, if you really are considering joining the Mormon church, rethink. Joseph Smith was charged with fraud; he was a born liar. He made up the Book of Mormon. It has so many contradictions it's not even funny. For instance- in the B. of M., it says murder can't be forgiven. Ever. In D. and C., it say murder IS forgivable. Why is this??? There is no way this could be metaphorically speaking; it's one or the other.
Mormons also say that their texts agree with the Bible. This is like saying that Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets agree with the Qu'ran. They are COMPLETELY different. Just like the B. of M. and the Bible. For example, the B. of M. teaches that people can become gods. But God said that he was the only God. THIS IS A HECK OF A DIFFERENCE. Again, it can't be metaphorically speaking. It's one or the other. No in-between space.
Is polygamy right? I don't think so. Why did Heber C. Kimball have over 40 wives? Why did Joseph Smith HIMSELF have over 15 wives? Why is it, that when asked the question, "Who is more authentic- Joseph Smith or Jesus?" many Mormons reply "Joseph Smith??"
These, and other obviously falsehoods are the reasons that you should delve into Christianity rather than Mormonism.
My parents were married in a Mormon temple and my mom is currently writing a book about it.

I would just love to have five minutes alone with your mother.
I am so sorry that this happened to you; your mother is gonna get exactly what she deserves, and rightly so.
The Bible answers so many questions, and did you know that most of what is in the Bible isn't even taught by the churches in general? Yep - and wow, is it ever intense. If you want to know some great facts, send me an email - I'll show you exactly why believing in that Book is a very, very good idea. Hopefully, you are out of your family's home - if not, you should plan to be asap.

Talk to your LDS friend, meet with the missionaries...you could even meet with them at your friend's house or have your friend come to your house. They can answer lots of questions. Also, maybe go a church meeting on Sunday, see how we are taught.
Sometimes it's hard to take it when family makes fun of us. One thing that will definitly help - pray. Pray to your Heavenly Father and ask him if what you are learning is true, also ask him to soften your families hearts so they will be more accepting. I have seen miracles work through prayer.
*For L-dog and quietly - sorry but your information is incorrect. quietly - we DO believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that he is the only way back to our Heavenly Father and that he suffered and died for our sins.
Please stop spreading false information.

I am sure your friend is a great person but please find out more
about the church of latter day saints before deciding to join..
Jesus is the only way to Heaven and any religion that does not recognize him as the Son of God sent to die for our sins in not
true Christianity.. if you have access to a Bible please read the Book of Romans in the New Testament ch.1-10 this should give you a better understanding not only about the truth but also about
your relationship with your family.
Lord bless you!

Go for it . Dare to believe. People will mock you for your beliefs anyway, Atheist or Christian. You've got nothing to lose by living a life of faith. You'll feel better for it. And the're your family, they love you and will understand your choice. They are free thinkers after all.

How will you feel when you're 25 and stayed away from everything your family told you to?
That said, stick with atheism, why take a step backwards?
