When people asks for the VIN, should I give it to them?

can people really re-VIN a stolen vehicle with my car's VIN? I mean the VIN is exposed on the Dashboard, anyone who's interested in stealing a VIN, he/she can just read off car's dashboard, right?

No. You don't have to post your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) in an advertisement in a newspaper, for example. Who asks for the VIN when looking at a used car BEFORE deciding to purchase it? Why?

If you have title (sometimes called a "pink slip"), it will list the VIN, as will the vehicle registration document. They can look at the VIN on the metal plate inside the car, and compare it to the paper document, to see that they are the same vehicle; otherwise, why would they want it? You should have a form from your state Department of Motor Vehicles for a Bill of Sale, that will list the VIN and license plate number and registration when you sell the car, or buy a car. Otherwise, It just doesn't sound right to me.

it is safe and will probably help sell the car because people can run a car fax check without having to go through the hassle of having to call you and get the VIN. If you don't give the VIN to people who ask for it they may assume you have something to hide.

Yeah, why not, makes it REAL easy for the thief to steal another one just like yours & re-vin it with your number...

It should be.

Even if they run a Carfax report, they don't show personal information, other than city.
