My roomie's kitty is about 5 years old. She's a house cat, but occasionally goes out in the hallway of the condo building. Within the last month or so she has lost much of the fur on her legs. She doesn't seem sick, has a good appetite and has all her current shots. She had a different brand of kitty litter which we thought may have caused the problem. We've switched back to her old brand. Does anyone know what might be going on with her? Thanks in advance for your advice.

Seeming it is the back that is affecting kitty the most it sounds like it could be FLEAS. Those dreaded creatures love the hot weather and love kitty's backside even more!!! I would be sure to get a good flea product like Frontline or another one you VET recommends as the stuff from supermarkets does not work. Fleas collars are hopeless as the treat the front end of the animal but it is the back end that fleas love, also people forget to replace them and they end up just being the cats collar.
Also Alopecia (balding areas), Could be in response to ringworm, a yucky and very contagious fungal infection that animals can pass onto humans. So if you are already using a great fleas product you may need to visit the vet to get good advice on the problem and what is causing it and if it is ringworm you will need to treat EVERYTHING to stop the contamination.

Could be a lot of things. The cat litter will take a while to change back if that's it. Maybe she has skin mites. Did she get into some powdered detergent or something? Check close to see if she is scratching, if so, take her to a vet. If not, try and wait a couple of weeks to see if it's just a bad stretch of shedding or not.

She could be pulling the hair out, cats will do that when thier upset. My cat does. If that's the only thing that's changed, that's probably what it is. If you've changed it back, and the hair is still disapearing, maybe bring her to a vet, see what they say.

do no longer cease treating the mite dilemma. it is often why there is hair loss...the cat is scratching his ears pondering the undeniable fact that of the mites and the hair is getting pulled out. or you have become the therapy on the exterior of the ear nonetheless of interior of it wherein it demands to be. are you able to take him to the vet? ultimate desires to you and kitty!

my kitten did that also!!
I think they just lick their hair so much that sometimes it falls out in plugs!!
It grows back fast though.
Good luck
Ps. I know you said you switched foods.
That could of been a problem also the vet has told me

fleas, maybe? That's what happened to one of my dogs and she only had a few fleas. Check with your vet if you're worried.
