Once a person has Staff infection but has taken pills for it can they give it to other people? Im really freaked out about getting it because I know someone that has it. If they touch me can I get it. I know I sound pretty stupid but I don't want to catch it. Can anyone tell me how I can get it? And how to avoid it. Because I have to be around this person. Any info about it would be VERY helpful!

First of all, let's put this in perspective. Staph exists all around us....it is on our skin! Problems occur when the staph bacteria enters our body. I am basing this answer on a skin related staph infection since your question doesn't say but sounds like that is what you are talking about.

Staph infection is spread by person to person contact. Usually via an opening in your skin (like a cut). You can only "get" it from this person if you come in contact with their infection while it is still draining. If it is dried and scabbed, you can't get it. You can't get it by touching them anywhere else...just from contact with the actual wound and only if it is still draining.

The staph bacteria is so prevalent that it can be very difficult to prevent infection. Your best defense is excellent handwashing...which means using warm water and soap. Also, if you have a cut, keep it clean, apply an antibiotic cream and keep it covered. This can help prevent the staph on your skin from entering the wound and giving you a staph infection.
