I have some more questions too.
1. How should I brush my teeth?
2. I am having trouble eating just about anything with these braces. What should I do?
3. How long does it generally take for the uncomfortableness to go away?

I have braces too so i should know...I have also been through this...
1.In the beginning, brush your teeth throughly but as soft as you need.
2. either try to find a spot where it doesn't hurt or try to eat soft foods.
3. i don't know about you, but it took me about 1 week for me to get comfortable...

oh...and too stop the pain, you can take some tylenol, advil, etc. hopefully that works...
GOOD LUCK with your braces!!!

Aside from taking some pain killers or using a "bite wafer" that your orthodontist may have given you, there isn't much you can do to stop the pain. The pain is normal and I know it seems impossible but it WILL go away within a couple of weeks. In the mean time you need to eat very soft foods, chew very carefully, and take some Ibuprofen or Tylenol. Eating cold foods (ice cream, etc) will help temporarily.

When I went through the fun of having braces!! Your teeth usually adjust pretty quickly, however you will have pain the first day. It will be a lot better tomorrow. So for today take Tylenol,or ibuprofen for the pain. Eat soft foods like mashed potatoes, and soups. Brushing is uncomfortable this day, so rinse with warm water with a little mouth wash.

Try to eat soft foods like soup, applesauce, jello. The pain will last for a few days.

Brush as you normally would and be sure to floss also so that food does not get stuck in between your braces.

You may need to take advil or ibuprofen also to help with the pain.

Awwwwww. Your orthodontist should have given you an instruction sheet. Your mom needs to call in the morning and ask if they forgot the instructions.

1. Brush gently, as you always do, in small circles, every surface. Be sure to swish very well, to get particles of food out from all the wires.

2. You'll have to eat soft foods, and cut your food up into small pieces for a few days. Drink fluids through a straw if it helps.

3. The first time is the worst time, and it will probalby take 4-5 days to feel a lot better. In the meantime, use Tylenol or Ibuprofen (Advil) for the pain, as indicated on the bottle.

It will be worth the pain. :)

your teeth will only hurt for a couple days... suck it up and take the pain and think about how great your smile will be once they are off. You'll get use to the pain and braces soon. Eat soft foods or stick to liquid meals for now, goodluck =D

hey! congrats on the braces~ the pain is caused by the stiffness and your teeth and gums will be sore for about a week and then you will get used to it. this happens everytime you visit the ortho and when he/she tightens/ fix the braces for you.
1. be really gentle- that's the only way to avoid more pain and use a mouth rinse after . try getting soft bristle toothbrush.
2. biting and chewing food, especially hard ones will be a huge problem at first. so at the mean time, try having bread, oat, soup, mashed potato, food which doesnt require much chewing.
3. it will take abt a week for it to go away.
good luck!!!

Well I had braces when i was young and its quite an ordeal at times. For the pain I'd suggest Ibuprofen or maybe some kind of topical pain relief like ambesol (I think that's the way its spelled. Brushing your teeth? I used a water pick. I'm surprised your dentist didn't suggest that or even give you one, my dentist gave me one. Eating? Well you just eat what you can, preferably soft foods like soup or maybe some ice cream (that'll ease the pain too). Generally your pain should subside in a couple days after the wires are changed. Yes, each time you get new wires, you have more pain. Try and tough it out, having a nice smile is worth your wait. Advice: Make sure you wear your retainer as long as your dentist suggest, or even longer. Not doing so can give you some poor results at the end.

brush the top of your teeth/gum with your toothbrush, use an interdental brush (picture) for in between the brackets and then use mouthwash. its what i have to do. Sorry, i dont know when it will stop being uncomfortable, ive only had mine for 3 days, but try eating soups, pasta, yoghurt, stuff that doesn't involve chewing xx good luck

1. Brush as you normally would but you will need to really work on the angles to make sure you get all of the plaque off, If it was me i'd use the Agent Blue mouthwash Listerine make to help you find the right angles in the beginning. Brushing with braces is time consuming but if you don't keep them super clean you'll have white spots on your teeth when they remove the brackets.
2. For the first couple of days you are going to want to eat softer foods, and no matter how hard you try you are going to get food in your braces, just keep them clean. As a general rule the first few days your teeth can be cold sensitive so avoid cold water or anything frozen.
3. The tight pressure feeling will go away within a couple days and expect that feeling everytime they adjust the wire. Motrin is going to be your best bet for the pain and cold sensitivity, you'll need to stay on it most of the first few days after tightening. I recommend taking Motrin prior to your ortho visits to help ease the pain. If the discomfort you feel is due to the brackets rubbing you lips or bands around the molars it will just take time for your mouth to get use to it. Good Luck!
