The guy is like 22 years old. He smells so disgusting! He stinks up the whole house. My mom, my boyfriend, and I tell her, but she won't tell him. It's really bad. We all just want to leave the house when he's here. His hair stinks, his feet stink, his whole body stinks. Even my sister can't stand it. I don't know how she can be intimate with him. She doesn't want to hurt his feelings, but it's really gross. What can we do????

Tell your sister that her boyfriend will not be welcome in your home (sounds like you all live together), until he starts taking better care of his personal hygiene.

If that does not work, then perhaps you should tell the boyfriend himself. It's disrespectful for him to come into your home when he is that dirty and smelly. It may be harsh, but when someone is that old and hasn't realized basic personal hygiene; they definitely need a loud walk up call.

Here's what ya' do--next time he comes over, say, "Phew!" and pretend to look for the source of the smell. When you find it, say, "I think its you. What's up--ya' been working hard? Why don't you jump in the shower real quick?" But act cool and be playful about it. Don't sound apologetic and don't sound like you're making fun of him. If he turns down your offer, gently insist.

Or, you could get him alone and be like, "Hey, John. We all think you're a fine fellow. People might not tell ya' because they don't care as much as we do, but you carry a pretty strong smell. Hey, some people just do." If he gets uppity, say, "I'm just telling you because I'm your friend."

If he cleans up his act, great. But if he resents you, don't feel guilty. You wouldn't be doing him any favors by letting him walk around stinking (I'd want someone to tell me). And besides, its your airspace. You're in your rights.

Man! I feel so sorry for you guys! Someone needs to start up a family discussion one day about body hygiene and try to get him to participate in the conversation. Make fun of one another with him present and see if you can throw him in the mix. Maybe he doesn't know any better. But you don't want to flat out put him on the spot...it might be a bit uncomfortable for everyone, mainly him.
