hello. im going to get a piercing on monday. i wanted my cartilage re-done casue im not happy with it but im thinking about a rook instead. it looks like i have the right "anatomy" for it.( i have a nice fold i suppose) i know it would get irritated by talkign on the phone and such but i want to get it done on the opposite side anyways.
does it hurt more than a normal cartilage piercing? (i have 3 already. i got 2 done at the same time. all by professionals with needles) but how much does it hurt compared to a normal cartilage piercing i thought my cartilage piercings hurt like a !$%^&* lol.
what was your expereince?
what jewelry do you start out with? a curved barbell?
how long does healing take?
any websites you can show me?
thank you!
please no rude comments!

Mine was done with a CBR in it and for the rooks I pierce, I give the option. Some people prefer one over the other and I personally prefer barbells, they don't get in the way as much. Generally 16g, but you can get 18g depending on the exact shape and prominence of the fold. The piercer will be able to tell you if you have the best anatomy for it or not.
To me, this hurt worse than any cartilage piercing I had ever had. It wasn't a quick pierce as I was expecting, but I still love it. Mine took a while to heal since I would always roll over on that side in my sleep and forget about phones and headphones, but it was only 8 months in an average period of 6 months, so I wasn't too much slower. Just take good care of it and you should be fine.

So your Rook eh? I just got mine last week. Besides my new rook piercing, I have my first and second holes on my earlobes, two cartilages and my belly button pierced. Now everyone has a different pain tolerance, but for me the pain was by far bearable. I got my first cartilage pierced with a gun and luckily no damage was done to my ear. And I must say that getting it done with a gun hurt WAY more than getting it with a needle. I think that getting my rook pierced did hurt but not as bad as I thought it would. You can bare any pain if you really want it. After they had pierced it and I got to look at it, even though I had to go through that 5 seconds of pinching pain, it was so worth it. It looks SO good!! My advice to you is if you want it enough, you can endure the pain with a sinch.
I got mine pierced with a mini curved barbell because I think it looks nicer than a ring and it doesn't stick out like a ring would, especially when it is freshly pierced. The people told me that it will take about 2 days to a week depending on your ear for your ear to settle down (stop being red, puffy and a bit crusty) mine has reached that stage and it looks really awesome. It does hurt to sleep on and to talk on the phone, so I just do all that stuff on the other side.
I hope my experience helps you with your decision
Good Luck!

I have a rook piercing. I've had it since August. They pierced it with a captive bead ring, but I had the option of that or a curved barbell.
I don't have any general cartilage piercings. I do have a tragus. Compared to this, it takes longer. Thicker tissue, also curved tissue. More time means more pain, to me anyway. It was sore for quite a while, much longer than the tragus. I think it was pretty sore for about a month, and occasionally it still feels sore. So it's been about five months, and it's healed.
My piercer said it would have been more comfortable to heal with a curved barbell, and if i were going to do it agian, i'd totally go with the barbell. The hoop looks better in my opinion, but for healing, go with the barbell.
Make sure you follow the directions for the sea salt soaks. This one drained a lot and stayed crusty for a couple weeks.

I have the rook done...it wasn't too painful to get it done, but it was uncomfortable because it's such a thick chunk of cartilage, so it took a long time (10 seconds maybe) to get the needle through. The only part that hurt was when my piercer closed the ring around the bead. For the most part it was just mildly achy. It wasn't much worse than a regular cartilage piercing, although my cartilage was painless to get done with a needle. It healed up really quickly, in a couple of months or so...and I got it done with a CBR, it's easier for the piercer to insert. I love mine, it's not a piercing you see all that often.

Start with a curved 16-18 gauge. It will take up to 4mo. to properly heal. And it will hurt about twice as bad as a cartilage piercing.
