It was a dream where whenever I opened my door to see a few ghosts staring deeply at me, then I would wake up to feel like something was on top of me, I felt pressure on me, I couldn't talk or yell, and I barely had control of any of my bodily functions. The main thing was that it kept repeating itslef over and over all throughout the night, but at 5 a.m. I woke up and actually opened my eyes and sat up and saw a black shadow run past my face and down the hall way... I was pretty frightening so can anyone tell me what it was?

Well I dont klnow if you know but we are actully paralized when we sleep. Some people have been known to think they completely woke up when they didnt, and see things. In actuality they were sleep with their eyes open and lights become ufo's and space crafts. Your body is still sleep (paralized) which explains why you couldn't move. You were digging into your subconscience which harbors a lot of the unknown. But on the other hand my mother told me a story once. She said she was in the bed with her mother and she got up. she went into the kitchen and ws talking to her deceased grandmother. Her mom herd her talking to someone but for some reason my mothers mother couldnt move or speak. Until my mom crawled back over her and layed int the bed was she able to move and ask her was she talking to. So maybe it was something maybe it wasn't.

To the above poster, I take your response seriously for what it's worth. There have been ongoing debates on so-called night terrors. Some people have similar experiences but with space aliens. A Catholic theologan and former exorcist had categorized some experiences and you seem to be describing what he called an Incubai (spelling?) Demon. This phenomena has actually been reported quite commonly. Try blessing your home with holy water and saying a prayer you go to bed. It should ward off any evil spirit in the house.

I hope this answer doesn't startle you.

Ryan~ I gotta grab my 'special' book....but I will help you. I need a few details from you though. These ghosts that were staring at you...male, female or unknown? Young or old? What made you think they were ghosts? In your dream, you were opening your bedroom door, right? One more question.....why do I sense that when you woke up those 3 or 4 times in the night, that you were not really feeling really, really afraid? Let me know if you can, I have to get my book.........

OK...Shadowy figures, in dreams, is any part of ourselves that we reject. They are our own rejected emotions or potentials. That's why I was sensing that you were not that afraid of this shadowy figure. It's you! There is something going on in your life that your not allowing yourself to experience or feel. It's a strong pressure, hense the actual physical inability to breath. What is it? You don't have to say, just think about it...

I know this will get laughed at by some, but it could have been demonic activity. Just out of curiousity, are you Christian?

I know it's possible to wake up in the midst of a dreams and "feel" paralyzed from the chemicals the body emits during sleep, but this sounds like maybe a little more.

It could be a night terror, because you had trouble waking up, but usually, if you're having terrors, you don't remember the dream, and just feel panicky or scared. That's not always the case though. I have heard that your eyes can be open while having them, but I don't know if that's true. check out wikipedia, night terrors, for more info.
Hope that helped.

It sounds like you have to much of the mineral copper in you. This mineral will not let your mind shut down at night. In order to sleep better some people take up to 100 mg.of Zinc per day.The weird dreams should subside unless you are consuming the wrong substance.

Don't listen to all the silly bible thumpers telling you it's Satan!! It's a simple phenomena called "sleep paralysis" and it can be scary, and it does get mixed up in you dreams. Look it up on the internet, and if there is a sleep clinic in your area you can phone them for more information.
