Hi Celeste...if you have an outdoor cat they need shelter to safely stay warm from the cold elements. If the temperature is near freezing pet animals cannot endure these temperatures for very long. A cat's body temperature is 100.5-102.5 F degrees . Consider bringing in your cat during the cold, freezing temperatures. The rule of thumb is this: If it's too cold for you, it's also too cold for your pet. Thousands of cats and dogs literally freeze to death each year. Many more suffer from hypothermia, and end up in veterinary offices due to excessive exposure to the cold.

The older a cat gets the less tolerant of weather. But even a dog house with straw gives them some protection from elements.

Hello =)

Well,....Cats need a place to get out of the weather....We have had barn cats for centuries, here, in this valley of PA....it gets down to 20 below here (well, it used to anyway).......and the cats were always fine. They'd come get a drink when we'd water the other animals. Cats are capable of getting most of their water from the blood of their prey, if they are active mousers. They still need some fresh water, though. If you have no outside structures with places for the cats to get inside, though....I don't think a cat will survive indefinitely, even much below freezing.

Namaste,

Depends how long its outside. I wouldn't let it stand longer then 1 hour below freezing unless it has some protection such as a cat house or something...
