I think it comes down to semantics. You are associated with a "doctrine" of some kind, even if it isn't organized into some cohesive dogma. There is an "ist", or an "ism" to which you have attached yourself, and therefore labeled yourself. "I am an Atheist", or "I practice Atheism", says that you identify with a particular philosophy, which many people confuse with religion. They hear "ist", or "ism", and it means religion to them.

The obsession about showing nonreligious people to be atheist is actually the obsession about freedom of mind. I will explain this in the following lines.
All of the religions of the world have tried to show themselves omniscience. Therefore, they should find an answer to this question that: why some people don’t believe in god.
The hypothesis of god has been around for centuries. Yet, nobody has been able to prove it. However, it is important to know that theism and atheism are two extremes in the hypothesis of god. Believers of one extreme insist in presence of god and believers of the other extreme deny it. From this point of view, it is clear that every organization that tries to sell its hypothesis can be considered a religion. In fact communism is a godless religion.
Despite the efforts of theist’s religions to show that all of the people that don’t believe in god are atheist, there are some people that are neither theist nor atheist. They are intelligent and they doubt about the hypothesis of god. This means that like scientists, they don’t believe; they try to find the answer. Belief or fate, is accepting something without a firm reason. It is totally different from knowing. Freedom of mind, which I mentioned in the first paragraph, means to be able to say “I don’t know. But I will try to find the answer”. Since such a person newer belongs to any religious organization, and he doubts about the basic idea of all of the religions, they simply want to deny his presence and they do it by categorizing him as atheist. By doing this, they can fight with him easily. Such a person is dangerous for them, because a right question is very powerful. It can easily bring all of the religions of the world to an end.
It might be interesting for you to know that some religions like Islam even don’t accept a Moslem to doubt about god or the judgment day. Such a doubt guarantees that the person will never enter heaven in the other world. This means that their mind is not free to even ask if there is a god or not?

Logical analysis ... I gave up trying to attribute reason to the desperate attempts of the schyzoid to defend their beliefs long ago but I'm beginning to wonder if it even matters when they can deny it as it is convenient to do so and then get back on the horse of misconception with such fervor with out dropping a second to notice themselves in the mirror as fickle and triffling.
Will it ever turn true and when will that make a difference?
Can't educate the profoundly confused that easily.
Peace out

Atheism is a system of beliefs, as are religions at their simplest definitions. The other stuff - like veneration - is secondary. Buddhism, for example, is called a religion, but Buddha is revered for his wisdom, not any divinity - much like Darwin.
Incidentally Darwinism and Atheism aren't the same thing. One can be a Darwinist but not atheist, and an atheist but not Darwinist.

People have a hard time being comfortable without pigeon holing everything. Religion itself is only used to explain the unfathomable. From Latin - religio - "supernatural constraint" or religare - "to restrain, tie back". Religion has through time been reduced from multi to monotheistic. Someday God will either be known and respected accordingly or no longer necessary. By Atheism being inherently unfathomable to theists they must call it religion.

Probably because the Christians who want to argue see many things in a religious context. The majority of Christian see atheism as just another philosophy.

My parents are atheists but they also don't talk about anything that is related to evolution. Just live a good life. The end.
Well, I think that they call us agnostics and "-ism" problem made Christians think Atheism is a religion

Well those are all statements of human ignorance and imperfections. I have always associated athiesm (if that is the right word) with the lack of religion. I agree with your Communism statement, since they believe that religion only gets in the way of the goal. That makes it purely political. Christians aren't perfect, and you should try to cut them some slack, correct them, then move on, just as I try to do on here every day.

The faithful can use the bible to prove, to themselves, that all religions other than theirs is wrong and that those followers are heathens and will go to hell. The moment they can prove, in their minds, that atheism is a religion they can use that criteria to prove atheism is wrong. If atheism is a religion it must be wrong and atheists must all be evil and go to hell - problem solved easy peasy.

I say for the reason that evolution is a theory just like the existance of God is a theory. both sides claim to have "evidence" of their view, but lets be serious... no matter how many dinosaur bones we dig up or ameobas we look at, there is no _proof_ we would need a time machine to figure it out.
