It can actually. My best friend has a degree to be a dental assistant and showed me the pictures in her book while she was in school. It can be caused by a variety of things butit is mainly by poor hygiene. So if someone who uses tobacco does not brush their teeth (and tongue) regulary a build up occurs clogging or inability to shed the dead cells making the tongue black and looking hairy. It's not really hair though. Just in case this didn't make sense I found some links for you

yeah hair-like strands do grow on your tongue, but it's actually just the taste buds coming up to the surface of the tongue. but this only happens when a person is smoking anything other than just plain cigarettes.

That's funny.

It does a lot of really awful things to the human body, but only a DARE officer could have come up with that one. Hahaha.

Thanks.
