What exactly prevents the pregnancy or what happens during the pregnancy, that makes it so taboo?

This question reminds me of another question.

If a man in Arkansas gets a divorce, is his ex-wife still his sister?

For a good example of the bad consequences of inbreeding look at Hillary Clinton. Now, do you understand?

If you want to shack up with your sister, you can do that without getting her knocked up. Just get her tubes tied.

From a purely scientific standpoint it narrows the genetic profile making the child more likely to have unfavorable attributes.

For example..

Cystic fibrosis is a recessive trait, meaning you can carry the gene but not have it. When both parents carry the gene the child is much much more likely to have the gene. If a father carries the gene but the mother does not it is likely that the children will carry the gene. If the children both do have the gene and have a child together there is an above average likelihood that the child will not only carry the gene but have the disease. Incest isn't the only way to get diseases like this, just one.

This is the reason why pure bread dogs are often less healthy than the average mutt. You can even observe in collies that the pure bread collies have narrow abnormal skulls for being inbred. Breeders of potent cannabis also encounter this problem when trying to create a consistent strain. It is also the reason, some say, that the royalty of Europe after centuries of intermarriage has more mental disease and physical problems like hemophilia.

You don't say what your relationship is to your relative. The problem is that when the blood lines are too close, there is a strong likelihood that birth defects, deformities, lwill occur. Why not research this on Google? Just type in your question and see what comes up.

Pregnancy wouldn't be prevented necessarily. The issue is that people who are related have a higher chance of creating offspring who have genetic illnesses or defects.

the reason why I feel that family member trying to have children together is bad because why would you putting hardship on the children that you is having, there already dealing with mess that outsider will be putting on them! why should you want to do that to a person there are alot of peer pressure out there! then you look on the other hand what would the other family would say? and how will they treat that child? and people do talk behind your back?

The DNA of you and your relative are too close together. This causes birth defects.

Besides, why would you WANT to have an incestuous relationship? There are so many opportunities to meet people and fall in love, why turn to family?

DNA gets all mixed up and the offspring comes out with mutations most of the time. If you want to see a movie of this I suggest watching Deliverance.

It has something to do with the genes being too similar. If you have children with a close relative, the chances of your child ending up with a genetic disorder is greater.

i don't know the exact way this happens, but family members who produce children together run a higher risk of having a child that has birth defects.---being blind, deaf, missing limbs, i think sometimes down syndrome children.

the percentage chance of having severly retarded children is really high-generally family members who start thinking that breeding is a good idea apparently are NOT starting off with exceptional high IQ's-the combined score in the form of the offspring is REALLY dismal! Don't do it!
