Does anyone know if you can buy a "home version" of one of those steamers like the sub shops use to make their subs really soft and melty and yummy ? I looked around a little on the internet, but just saw commercial ones for sale (and I don't have room for anything that big!) Or if you know any way to achieve the same result, I'd be open to that too !

Wow! There are so many things you can do with a rice cooker! Been there, too! Also, if you have one of those tiny dorm room frigs and a toaster or small toaster oven, that is all you will need. *You can heat up any canned item like soups or packaged meals from grocery stores, that are cheaper than going out. *You can make rice, buy a german or kielbasa sausage (keep in small frig), and slice part of it into the rice. Buy one of those paper containers of chicken stock, and cook the rice in stock instead of water. Instant meal. *You can add one teaspoon of butter (keep extra in the frig) and stir up some scrambled eggs, add either some left over kielbasa sausage, or keep an can of spam (store xtra in frig), and put about 1/4 into the eggs. *You can make a home made soup. Add stock, buy a bag of mixed veggies, cook on low, and keep a bag of of some egg noodles, and add a handful or two. Simmer about 20 minutes, add salt and pepper. *You can make mac and cheese in a rice steamer. *Buy a can of baked beans and add some of that kielbasa sausage slices. *Keep a loaf of wheat bread in your frig. Bread lasts longer in the frig. Buy a tub of butter/margerine. Always have toast with your meals to keep fuller. Keep a jar of peanut butter and jam around, too. They never get old. *You can even buy some cheese slices and keep in the frig. And, you can make a grilled cheese sandwich in the rice cooker. *You can cook bacon in the rice cooker. Then scramble eggs, and make toast in the toaster. I even made an omelette, just cook on low heat! Packaged hashbrowns. Also, oatmeal. Too many to mention here. Enjoy! Andie

You could see if the sub shops are planning to purchase newer steamers and if they are if they would be willing to sell it to you for an acceptable price. Majority of the time when retail shops update their electrical items they either throw the items out or give them away. I would enquire before you go and spend $$$ big bucks $$$. Good luck!

You can purchase a panini grill anywhere...I would just spritz the bread of the sammy with a really little bit of water and then close the top-that might work. I know you can also buy special sandwich bags on the net that you put in your toaster-that might be a good alternative.
