I'm usually maybe too soft hearted where pets are concerned but, this is one instance where I think you must be stern. When she growls at you and she's not playing you need to slap her hard on the muzzle, shouting NO! - right away, so she'll know why. I read a book once by a famous dog trainer and she said when she first gets a pup she puts the bowl down with food in it and when the dog starts to eat she puts her hand right in the bowl. If the dog growls or snaps she slaps it's muzzle like that. We did this with one of our dogs when he growled. We only had to do it once. He never growled again. He would just stop eating when we put our hand in. Then we would praise him. You need to break your dog of this before you have a biter on your hands. It's kinder than having to send it to a shelter or having to put it down.

she doesnt trust you. and she doesnt accept her position as under you on the ladder of authority. as alpha you must ensure she knows who is the boss, and the hand that gives can take away.
I trained my girl young and would give her a bone, then after a few minutes take it away, praise her, then give it back. when I would feed her dog biscuits I would run my fingers around in them and around her gums while she ate them, while I was humming soft tunes. she got used to this and now as an adult of 7 years, I can take bones off her, and still play with her food. I dont though, but occasionally to reinforce my authority and that I will not deny her, i do do it. shes a Bull Terrier.
it may be too late in an older dog. the best could be to ignore her until she is desperate for acknowledgment, just to reinforce the Alpha role you should have in her eyes. in the wild, dogs do not tolerate lower ranks to usurp their authority. you shouldnt either, but instead of giving pain, deny love. the dog should come around.
the key is to get them young with all the training you want. though you can teach old dogs new tricks, it is harder. praise is a great tool, so any signs of her not growling, praise her to excess.

I think troxie79 is right. But in addition to that information, whenever she growls at you, move forward closer and closer until she backs away from you. Also, if she growls when you walk by her, remove her from where she is sitting and you immediately sit where she was sitting. If she bites, you will have to hold her down on her side until she quiets down. AND WALK HER EVERY DAY FOR 45min.

no no no i dont agree with none of these answers, but the person who said something about the alpha dog is someone right, but never strike your dog, it will fear you forever!! You just got to teach him your alpha, you eat first, let him watch you eat before feed him, never let him through a door first, if hes in the way where your walking ( even if he sleeping ) make him move don't go around him. Once or twice a day sit down and make him sit by you for at least 15 minutes, if he moves put him back and say saty, do it as many times as it takes for him to stay.
