Well, you can ask him to join your friends for a movie with u. Just take sometime to observe and know him better before moving on. Cos a crush can become a mistake. As long as you are not asking him out alone...you should be safe. Your friends can help keep a look out on him.

If you ask him out it could ruin everything...but I guess if you like him...go for it! You might not have another chance. And make sure he likes you because if you get rejected and still want to remain friends, he might not see you in the same light.
