I have not used this particular paint sprayer, but I researched when I purchase mine last spring. Your project is probably a good enough reason to purchase a sprayer and I think the Magnum DX is a good choice. As I recall these are sold at The Home Depot and they have a chart which tells how to select a sprayer based upon use. But as I recall this one falls into the range you need. My experience with renting was that it cost me as much time to clean it up so that it would operate properly (because the person who had it before me did't bother) as it did to do the actual painting and cleaning up may own mess.
When I was doing research, it appeared to me that there are just a few manufactures who market under different brand names and that the manufactures produce approximately similiar models.
These sprayer work very well and vastly increase your efficiency. For example, I completely primed the outside of my 1300 sq ft home in less than two hours and two coats of paint took less than four. I also completely painted the entire inside of a two floor two bedroom appartment in less than six hours. This did not include any of the prep work, just the painting, but it did include all the ceilings which were textured.
Coverage was great. I did find however that I liked using the 4-11 oriface the best. While it put out less paint, there was less mist in the air and fewer (almost no) runs.
Clean up is the biggest challenge but with the hose adapter it goes rather quickly. After running water through painter and hose, you would be wise to remove the filters and clean them individually. The better you clean it, the longer it will last between rebuilds.
I purchased a Zip Spray 1700 used and put in the kits necessary to make it spray properly and used it to paint three house exteriors, four fences and two appartment interiors and I expect it to run one more summer before I have to replace parts again.
Come to think of it, I believe Sherwin - Williams paint stores might sell their rentals. It might save you a few bucks. A friend of mine bought a Wagne Paint Crew, painted one house exterior and it was worn out, too small.
That's about all I can tell you about my experience with these machines. Good luck!!!

RE:
Anyone used a Graco 'Magnum DX' paint sprayer?
I have to paint several rooms and will need to do it over a couple of days. The cost of renting a profesional sprayer would end up being similar to buying an inexpensive sprayer, which i could use for other projects. How well does this sprayer work?, coverage?
ease?. or any other sprayer...

Gracos are wonderful sprayers , but not that model, for your case get a 395 highboy it will work well and reliably, I am a Painting contractor and Gracos and Titans are all we use ,most are 495 and 695s, but we have 5 ,395s for smaller jobs. Titans are good but hard to find tips for ,so we put graco guns on our titans , that way we can have graco tips on all sprayers

They are crapola, for kids mostly. ur better off rolling it. They are hard to clean, dont produce volume and do not last. I had to grit my teeth and peel off 400$
4 for my spraytech 1420 pro sprayer, which is the cheapest of the pro models, but it was worth it. It sprays a pint a min and has one coat coverage. I sprayed 4 rooms in 3 hrs, it took 8 tp prep. Stay away from the handheld cheapies. You can rent a full pro model for 20 bucks. It paid for itself the same day I bought it.

Found it new on Ebay for $410 in the link below. In good condition with limited use I would say about $200-250. If you expect to be using it a lot I suggest buying a better machine. This is a slight upgrade from a homeowner machine at best. It will pay for itself but the output is low for a pro.
