I got the sarcasm right away. I grew up Christian. Lutheran, to be specific. At the age of 14 I started to research all religions. I looked at the science in all of them, the wisdom, and the drawbacks. At 18, I left Christianity. I hated being told in the bible that my husband would run my life, that I would have no property or marital rights, that my father could sell me into slavery, and that my very birth was a loss. I hated being told that if I got married and my husband died leaving brothers, that I could be passed around and raped by them until a son was produced and given his name. I converted to Islam. I did full research, so I know a lot more than most people simply because I don't watch a lot of the news and get whatever news I have from those countries in the english version. I love the fact that because I have the two children, my husband must feed himself, clean his own mess, and not give us a hard time because we already have enough stress without him throughout the day. The Prophet (PBUH) served himself and his wives, cleaned up his own mess, and the men of his day cooked and taught other women how to cook. They also tolerated the excesses of their wives because they understood that their wives save them the costs of so many things, including chefs dishwashers and nursemaids. I also love the fact that in the Quran and hadith, the mother is the most highly respected member of the home. The children are to obey her first and foremost. In the case of divorce, their father is still to support his family as though they were with him and the mother has the first right to custody while their father is 4th in line for that right. If people only knew the facts about Islam and not what they have been spoonfed by the media, they would not hate it as much.
