A small piece of my tooth came off. It hurts alot. I took two extra-strength Excedrin. It's after 11 P.M., so I can't call my dentist. Is there anything else I can do about my problem so I can sleep without pain or worry?

Cover the tooth so it isn't exposed to the air whether it be with wax, sugarless gum, or temporin. However if this tooth has an abcess not much will ease the pain at this point. I suggest you take an antibiotic if on hand though they take 24 hours to become effective (get a head start), also take a pain pill & apply heat. Call your dentist first thing in the morning or leave a message right now that they will check in the morning so they make you priority since your call came in first.

Well, the caffeine in the Excedrin won't help you sleep either. Consider using Aspirin, Tylenol or Advil for your next dose.

By the way, I am sure that "g i" means to take three 200 mg ibuprofens as this is what she actually wrote. I just don't want you to think it means 3,200 mg ibuprofen, which would be a monstrous dose that would probably make you sick if you took that much all at once. That's a 24 hour dose limit - not a single dose.

Take an anti inflammatory like ibuprofin. That is the best for a tooth ache. try taking 3 200 mgs. Also apply a ice pack on your face where the pain is to help w/ swelling and pain.

there is a thing you can purchase at the store (walmart carries it alongside the flosses and picks) I think it is called dental wax but don't quote me on it. It is used to temorarly fill cavities. I would try that until you can get to the dentist since what is more than likely hurting in the nerve being exposed to the air. Good luck.

Anbesol ( from the store...numbs the pain) also if you're handy and can do it without making a mess of yourself...dry the tooth off and SuperGlue the pieces back on. (the dentist will drill that part off anyway..)
Benadryl (will make you sleepy and you won't feel the pain if you're alseep.)
