im always getting handed pamphlets in the street telling me (basically) that im going to burn in hell if i dont accept christ.. quite frankly im getting a bit fed up of it. Im an agnostic and i gotta admit, jesus sounds like a nice guy (a little over hyped maybe) and ive got nothing against the whole christian thing, what i dont like is all this heaven and hell bull**** (because lets face it, that is exactly what it is.. someone will have a go at me for saying that but its pretty obvious the whole concept of the devil and hell was created by the church to scare people into giving tithes).. and why always christians? ive never had an attempted conversion by hindus, muslims, budhists whatever.

Not nearly enough Christians are concerned about the salvation of others. Too few try to share the good news about Jesus. Far too many just go to Church occasionally on a Sunday then forget about God till next time. If we ALL got busy.... phew.... don't even think about it!

Here's a point to think about. Christians cannot even convert and save themselves, let alone anybody else. Only God can turn people around to see their true state and their need for repentance. So don't fret about people offering you leaflets, consider what God might do if he chooses to break through into your life. (I'll be praying for you.)

Final point to think about. The person who spoke most, and most strongly, about the horrors of hell was Jesus Christ, when on earth. Read the Gospels, in particular Luke chapter 16 verses 19-31 - and tremble.

Hi Ashley
I used to feel exactly the same as you. I didn't believe anything about religion Heaven or Hell at all. Then I went on an Alpha Course which teaches you all about Christianity, Jesus and the Truth. Christians know that it is important to spread the good news about Salvation, Jesus and God. Jesus came to save us so we can come to know God and have the most privileged gift of Eternal Life. We know that when Jesus returns it will not be to offer Salvation but to Judge us all, and anyone not saved will not have eternal life. What kind of people would we be if we wanted to keep it a small exclusive club and keep all the rewards to ourselves. No other religion can offer that, that's why they don't 'bother' you. Tithing is something that comes from you heart, and is completely voluntary. Anyone who pressures people into tithing is not working for God, but themselves.

I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.
John 8:12

Go on try it, you'll never regret it. I am living proof of that.
God Bless You

Well, Jesus told them to spread the word to all the world, and they're still trying. Jesus himself wasn't into the fire-and-brimstone stuff, that's a left-over from the middle ages that doesn't seem to be dying out even though the bible itself isn't as vehement as the supposed followers of the religion it represents.
The Christian church is fragmented badly into so many factions that they claim one another are going to hell for this or that all the time.

The Muslims are also directed to spread their religion.
Historically they have found that is most efficiently accomplished through intimidation and conquest. Current terrorist activities suggest these methods are still in use.

On the Whole I'd rather be lectured by a Christian.

You know I would buy the whole money angle if money was really all that important. Maybe I am delusional, but I don't think your theory on the devil and tithing run to well with the truth. Actually not to sound like a horrible person, but that theory sounds more like an excuse as to why not to believe than an actual reason.

Actually in Church there is very little talk of hell. Christians when they are together rarely speak of hell, The tithe is something we do to support our Church, even if you gave no money you don't go to hell. It is so strange to me how you accuse us of things that you know nothing about. There is this life and then death, then the judgement of God. Believe it or not, the choice is yours. God has offered you a free gift and you decided no, cause to you the whole idea is just so Christians will give money to their Church. Good Luck

Christians, like any faith that a religious person firmly believes in, are going to try and convert you. They feel that if their religious preference can work for them, why not everyone else?

Have you ever tried a new product on the market, and you just couldn't wait to tell all of your friends about it? It's almost the same concept, only that for Christians, it's about "saving your soul".

I have found the Jehovah Witness group to be annoying when they come around my neighborhood on the weekends. I just polity say "no thank you."

If you want to believe in God, I feel it's entirely up to you. It's all bout being accountable for your actions, however you see fit to arrive at that assumption.

They are carrying on the work of Christ when He was on Earth. Jesus came to Earth to save sinners. Earth was His place of work, He was sent by His father, God, his authority came from God, his purpose of work was to save us from eternal damnation.Jesus was successful in his mission on Earth, by dy-ing on the cross, and by rising from the dead, that is why He said on the cross : " It is finished" He did what He came to do. He defeated Satan, the evil one. However there are still some unbelievers in the world Today who need salvation before it is too late. Those who hand out pamphlets in the streets, most likely had a glimpse of the rages of Hell waiting for the unbelievers.

Dude/Dudette! I am a Christian. I don't think I've ever in my life handed anyone one of those little pamphlets, nor have I pulled anyone aside or stood on a street corner shouting... I'll be honest, I HATE crowds. Don't go out shopping in the months preceding or immediately after Christmas -- too many self-centered idiots t contend with. I can't wait to get to heaven and with any amount of luck (a word never once mentioned in the Bible), there won't be that many people there! If I wre to start "Sharing" then I'd run the risk of having to deal with mre idiots/people if and when I get there. And, thos Islamic countries, it is illegal for someone to try and convert others to Christianity...

If you've got good news- that even though we deserve hell we can be part of heaven because of Jesus- you're going to share it. Maybe its just that hindus muslims and budhists don't have good news to share?

hehehe! i used to have a hobby collecting those Jesus tract pamphlets. i had hundreds of them, all different, all saying the same thing.

i especially liked the graphic ones wherein the morality tale is told with detailed cartoons. one teenager repents smoking pot when he is proselytized by a concerned Christian while another teenager ends up a dead drug addict roasting in hell surrounded by leering demons for having rejected the kindly Christian's message. stuff like that. what a hoot!

one day i decided i was bored with that hobby and spent a pleasant hour or so burning them one by one. quite satisfying.
