There is live guitar music (he plays requests) at Le Madeleine on the corner of 43rd and Ninth serves a good three course prix fixe dinner for $32.- Even better value - 3 course dinner after 8pm - $24. Back room is very pleasant.

If you want to take her somewhere you know she has never been, and is a hidden gem in the city, go to Pisticci's. It is a cozy Italian restaurant not too far from Columbia University. The food is delicious and there is a nice wine selection. Additionally, training opera singers perform for free on Wednesday nights.
I LOVE THIS PLACE. Very romantic and allows for easy conversation.

Piadina - little Italian place on 57 W 10th St: really good food, very cute, quite, romantic atmosphere (it's in the bottom of a brownstone).
Or, Cuba at 222 Thompson St is very nice - a little more lively but still romantic. Food is awesome.
Antique Garage in SoHo is a good date spot. Food & atmosphere are very good too.

Tao! It's real trendy and lots of fun. The lighting is pretty romantic also. I think you will like it. Follow the link below to get more of a vibe for the place. Excellent firt date place. You will look like "Mr. Chic" in her book!
