The US Army held Saddam until the execution. He was guarded by them and escorted to court by them. His execution was the responsibility of the Iraqi government.

Officially, no Americans or any other foreigners were present. We handed him over to the Iraqis at the prison and left the execution up to them. I would not doubt that we had officials nearby to confirm his death afterward.

not one. americans did not try, convict or execute saddam. they turned him over to his own country upon his capture by american soldiers.
