Has anyone had any good or bad experiences taking thier teenage sons or daughters to Linden Oaks for psychiatric treatment? Can you give me input as to whether this is a good facility?

I had a bad overdose 14 years ago. (10 days on a respirator, a pacemaker and CPR 3x) At the time this happened I had been in the psych hospitals so many times I don't know how many. The Dr. in the HMO was trying to send me back to the hospitals that had done nothing for me. My father (a Dr.) somehow got a hold of the Dr. in charge of the HMO. Basically he demanded I be sent elsewhere than the other places I had been in (in Elgin and Arlington Heights)

At Linden Oaks where they finally decided to treat me, I found the BEST care I had found. They were aggressive in medications, trying things I had never been on. I had alot of psych tests like MMPI, Rorach and IQ testing.

They used all the testing to decide what my individual treatment would be. I had a Great treatment plan and a good psychologist and psychiatrist. They were aggressive in therapy's and melds.
The staff at Linden Oaks was the most caring and helpful I had ever seen. They had a very structured program and I know it helped save my life.

It has been 14 years and I just had my next hospitalization. The reason for this one was medication adjustments.

So, I highly recommend Linden Oaks, They gave me the tools I needed to save my life.

You may want to check with your local chapter of NAMI, the national association for the mentally ill. You can look them up online & get a local number. You'll get an opinion that is hopefully based on a lot of people's experiences there (patients and family members).

I live in Aurora. It is a very good facility with a great reputation. I haven't had personal experience there, but have had good reports from student's families

I never had to use it for my teen, but my girlfriend had a son that was bipolar and needed to be stabilized. They said it was a good facility.
