It happens many times but my mother in-law was probably the exception special person. She was a very caring and lovely person. I loved her so much even until the last days of her life, I came to visit her in hospital when later she passed away.
I suggest to you just love her, like you love your own mother. Show that you care about her and pray one day she will see and treat you better as her own.

It's not normal for someone to automatically hate anyone without a reason or at least what they think is a reason. But it isn't automatic that they love her either just because their son does. Most parents are happy with the spouses of their children as long as they believe that spouse is making their child happy. If you are a crappy wife, don't treat your husband right, don't keep a clean house, spend all his money, etc., they probably have good reason to dislike you. But hate is a pretty strong word. Talk to her about how you feel and see what she says. You might want to remind her that if your husband is willing to tolerate you, so should she.

Because until the son was married, the Mom was the number one Woman is the son's life. Some women can't handle the loss of affection from their child and are jealous. There is nothing you can do to make the mother happy.
When a man chooses to marry his wife and children are his family and they should always come first in his heart.

First I would like to state that hate is a very strong word! you can say that she really do'not like her daughter-in-law, the mother must have so very strong feeling to say something like that, the daughter-law must have done something for the mother to feel like that! it is must more to that! because no one just wake up one day and have those type of feeling******

Been there........
If the parent is causing problems in her son's marriage, it's up to the husband to tell his mother/parents to back off. If he does nothing about the situation, then the wife should assess the quality of life/marriage and if it's worth it.
That kind of stress will always hang over this marriage until the issues get resolved, if possible.

I think that as mothers we are afraid for our kids, and sometimes the daughter in law is not the sweetest person in the world. But remember when you were young and the obstacles you had to go through to try to make your mother in law like you. It is an awful thing to do.If you love your son or daughter respect the person they love even if they are not who you wanted for your son or daughter. It is your son or daughters choice not yours.Be nice or you might find yourself alone one day.Let them worry about their differences or arguments.Smile at her and respect her she is with your son not you.

I think alot of mother-in-laws don't like their daughter-in-laws. I think they're jealous. They need to let their sons grow up and be men.

i found out last year my mother in law has hated me since the day she met me...no idea why...the only thing that bothers me is it took this long for em to find out,and i've been married to her son for almost 11 years now...had i known this things definitely would have been different..but knowing this explains why she didn't bother to give us a wedding gift, not even a card and now she is the one missing out on her only grandchild because i refuse to drive 3 hours to visit a lady who does not like me and basically ignores me when we do go to her place

It seems to happen a lot...My husband doesn't talk to his mom very often, so I don't have to deal with that to much.
