Im a 18 year old female, last year in March, i woke up one morning deaf in one ear, the doctors said it was permanent sudden unexplained nerve damage. I was put on steriods for a while to rebuild the nerves and it helped slightly, unfortunantly, the steriods made me gain a lot of weight, and i almost constantly have the shakes... Does anyone know how to aid the deafness, weight gain or the shakes?

I eat rather healthy and am on a vegetarian diet, unfortunantly i have a slow metabolism.

I looked up meniere's syndrome and i found no similarities between the symptoms i suffered and normal menieres symptoms. I had no dizzyness, no unbalance, no pain, No sign of water damage, and no infection whatsoever...

So, as three doctors have informed me, Sudden Unexplained Nerve Damage. Which i have heard is VERY rare.

Could be Minear's Disease, or Diabetes. The shakes you describe sounds like Hypoglycemia... or low blood sugar. A major symptom of Diabetes is nerve damage. Have your glucose checked. And ask for an A1c test.

Sudden, unexplained nerve damage? That sounds more like the doctor you saw don't have a clue! Steriods to rebuild the nerves? Yikes!

One of the best things I ever learned in all my years is to question everything! You need to see another doctor and another doctor until you get an answer. I have never, ever heard of sudden unexplained nerve damage but I have heard of doctors making mistakes, making poor diagnoses and making people more sick than when they walked through their doors.

God bless
