Maybe you can help yourself by leaving them both do what they want and find yourself a better guy who will love YOU and not your friend. If his just an obsession than accept it. He's not the only one, and he's NOT THE ONE. You will meet your true love one day. :))))
Try to forget him and try to make yourself live without thinking about him

You have to understand how guys work and since I'm a guy (last time I checked) I can give you a heads up. First off, guys are morons. Absolute idiots. We fail to see the things that are right in front of us because we we're looking everywhere else. It's a supply and demand issue (sorry but that's all I could think of). If a guy knows a girl likes him then he takes her, puts her on the back burner and then if all else fails then there you are. Just being honest. Men are also human and every human wants what they can't have. if he gets the impression that he can't have you and you "fade" into the background a bit and are noticeably happy in doing so I assure you he will pay attention to you. There's no such thing as "never" only "when".

Go and flirt with some other guys to get your mind off him. Also, just because your friend flirts with him and he flirts back, doesn't mean he doesn't like you. Wait a little bit and then try with him again if you are really wanting him
