I have to say that I'm unconvinced by the godhood of jeshua/jesus, but I found the words of the sermon on the mount (Mathew?) extremely valuable and convincing, starting with 'blessed are..' they form an excellent counterpoint to the laws of Moses 'Thou shalt not..'
That a human being suffer torment and anguish and physical pain could utter ' forgive them father for they know not what they do' or enduring the agony of crucifixion could comfort a thief and fellow sufferer with the words 'this day you shall enter the kingdom of heaven' offers hope to us all..even at the eleventh hour..(at any rate this particular passage has been an inspiration to me). I believe the authenticity of these words ..they are so raw and visceral they could not be invented. I do not know of the the divinity of christ, but surely we should live our lives through his example even as a man?

It's interesting that the gospels were written thirty years or more after Jesus' supposed death, yet some people still think these words are direct quotes.

I agree with you, as far as trying to live as Jesus did. When it comes down to it (at least, what we should take from the whole myth) is that we should just be good to one another and accept each other for all our faults. The words of Jesus, Mahatma Gandhi, Kahlil Gibran, the buddha, Max Ehrmann and countless other historical figures and authors have said the same thing for thousands of years: love one another.

That is what we should take into ourselves; that is what is authentic, raw and visceral.

definitly! the sermon on the mount is a great guide for us to live by, all of Jesus' teachings were very valuable to us, and there is a reason for it. He is God's Son. He was not just any man, but a perfect man

God said so: matt3:16 After being baptized Jesus immediately came up from the water; and, look! the heavens were opened up, and he saw descending like a dove God’s spirit coming upon him. 17 Look! Also, there was a voice from the heavens that said: “This is my Son, the beloved, whom I have approved.”

Jesus said so:matt27:43 He has put his trust in God; let Him now rescue him if He wants him, for he said, ‘I am God’s Son.’”

others said so:matt 14:33 Then those in the boat did obeisance to him, saying: “You are really God’s Son.”

(jesus also proved it through his lifecourse and ministry work, but he also fulfilled oodles of prophecies about the messiah)

He was as "human" was intended to be.
So, they crucified him ..... and still do .....
Every time they kill a brother or a sister -
Sometimes even as they utter his name,
and claim him as their God and Savior.
For all his sacrifice, they still
know not what they do.
PEACE.
