You clearly knew enough about braces to put this in the "dental" section, so I'm guessing you already know.

They straighten your teeth. Dentists put them in your mouth.

Braces?
There are many braces which do you refer too
Braces of Geese ( 2 geese nake a brace)
Braces for trousers.Used to hold up a mans trousers, alternative to a belt. Your grandfather probably wears them, firemen do too.
Braces for teeth. Corrective prosthesis to straighten or close gaps in teeth.
Braces in Buildings. Support beams to prevent movement whilst building is taking place or used as support for roof, balconies etc.

braces are two wires and a series of brackets put on your teeth to straighten them. some people say that they hurt and are uncomfortable, it's true but that's only for a few days to maybe about a week or week in a half.
