I had a tattoo artist design/sketch a tattoo for me.
I gave him 3 drawings that I made...to show him just what I wanted.
I go to see the drawing he came up with tomorrow and (if I like it) get it tattooed on.

I have this fear that if I don't like his design I won't know how to tell him in a "nice" way that I don't want it.

(..and if its going to be on me forever I need to "want" it!)

PS.. will a tattoo on my shoulder/bicep hurt (haha)

If you don't like it then tell him so! That thing is going to be on you for the rest of your life so if you don't like it let him know. Just tell him that you'd rather it look "this" way or "that" way, you don't have to be like "wow, you suck at this."

Just tell him it isn't exactly what you had in mind or what you wanted. Don't worry about it, you won't be the first or the last person to tell a tattoo artist they don't like a design. Tattoo artist are use to this and often redo designs until the customer is happy with it. I'm sure he would rather have you tell him you don't like it then him tattoo you and have you not be completely happy with it. This is going to be on you forever not on the tattoo artist so if you don't like you have to tell him, don't be afraid.

You have to be honest. If it's not exactly what your looking for start with a positive. "I like this and that etc" BUT i was looking for a little more of .... or ....!
They are really creative people and can probably alter the design to suit you if you don't love it. They want you to love it so you a) come back again and b) brag about them to your friends. He'd rather you commented then have it done and not like it.
Good luck with it.

all you have to do is tell him that you'd like "this" or "that" changed or a little different. the artist should be willing to work with you and your design idea. don't just not get the tattoo because you don't like the initial sketch of it. just work with him until you like what you see.

Don't go into it thinking "what if I don't like it." You may love it. If not, just say so..."well, I would really prefer (insert preference here)."

A true artist is going to want to know exactly how you feel about it. A devoted artist is going to want to give you exactly what you want. They want you to walk out of their shop so proud of them and what they have given you. Only a quack will get angry. Never, never, never ever put something on your body that isn't exactly what you want.
Good luck!

My husband is a tattoo artist, he said he would like to hear....Point out the parts you DO like, then say what you might like changed. But he would rather someone be up front and HONEST, so as they don't leave unhappy..that is bad for buisness.

"It is nice sir, but I'm afriad it isn't exactly what I'm looking for.." and then be honest with him, tell him what you don't like about it and he will probobly be able to fix it for you. Don't worry, Im sure the dude won't be mean or anything. He knows its going to be on you forever so you are allowed to be picky.

you need to speak up for yourself then and tell him if you don't like it. Also, as an artist, you're going to be wearing their artwork and so they want you to be happy with the work that they've done. To reiterate what you want....go back to the drawings that you sketched out and such. Most likely, he will be able do the thing that you like....

You should tell him that is not what you had in your mind. Do not be afraid to ask for a few adjustments to get it the way that you want it.
You may also want to get a regular artist to draw up what you want exactly. The tattoo artist then just has to trace and transfer.
Yes, it will hurt, but it is an indescribable pain. Once its done it feels good.

I would just tell him... I have 7 tattoos and one of them she had to sketch it and resketch it at least 3 times because it wasn't just right... be ready to make suggestions it's easy to do... just don't worry..
