I need to know how do I train my Pom to not bite???? It doesn't hurt now but when he gets a bit older, I know it will. I started off by saying firmly "NO" in a very loud tone (almost yelling like) as when I just say a firm "no" he'd just continue as if he didn't hear a thing. When I say it loud, he'd stop and look at me and I'd give him the stare down and he'd eventually look away and throw a tantrum trying to break himself free from me and walk away or sometimes he throws himself to the ground and covers up his eyes with his paws! Lately, he's been ignoring my firm "NO" and continues with the biting and his teeth are beginning to get sharp. He also seems as if he's challenging me as he's getting a bit rougher when I tell him "NO".
I've tried yelping and walking away however, he just follows me wagging his tail or he'll go to one of his toys and I'll take it away. He's not getting it! What do I need to do to show him that the playful biting is not always ok?? I'm out of solutions!

I totally understand that he's teething and beleive me, he has tons of toys and explores everything. He's just been getting rough with his biting lately and I just need to know how to correct it. Sure we play, and as long as he's not biting me hard it's fine when when he starts trying to rip my finger off, I get a little worried that this is something that will graduate into his adult stage as well. I definitely don't want to take away from him being a puppy however, I just want to start teaching him from now that his biting can hurt. He can bite me harshly and I'll know he's playing because he's my baby however, someone else may in fact think that he actually bit them as it's starting to hurt. I just want to avoid any future occurences. It's important that I'm able to communicate with him in a way that makes him understand what I'm trying to demonstrate. Thank you all for your detailed answers. It's really appreciated!

Driving you nuts, isn't he? Wow! How many memories that brings back. You need to treat him firmly and it sounds like that firm and low NO you have does bother him, he's just all caught-up in his baby self!! He is having a high old time and little tots can be just as bad. Keep your mind on the fact that "This too shall pass" and hold firm!! He won't be full grown until 18 months, can you believe it? But I have a Boston Terrier that I called The Puppy From Hell and she is now the very sweetest and smartest of our 4 dogs. It's almost like someone swapped dogs with me!! Your doggy will be worth it. Get some pictures now so you can remember all this fun you're (not) having!! Good Luck!! @8=)

Not just a Pom, but a dogs 'hands' are their teeth. Its natural for them to bite, chew and gnaw on just about everything. The same way a people baby tries to stick everything into their mouths. Its how they explore their world. Your puppy needs a toy or some item that it can chew on without being told no.
Its just as much play too. Yes, those puppy teeth are sharp, but don't continually correct the puppy. They just don't understand that its wrong. To them its just instinct.

I had a Pom. She grew out of it. Don't encourage play biting. Some people might not agree, but I would flick her nose too... not hard. What works with kittens which probably would work with pups is scream or yelp in a way that it'll know it hurts. But the best way in my opinion is not to encourage it and most likely he'll grow out of it.

Give him a light tap on the bridge of his nose to accompany the no. It will startle him enough to stop, then ignore him, i mean dont even look at him for 5 mins, then play nice and give him a treat if he is good and doesnt bite.

I've had a pomeranian too. If they were 100 lbs. everybody better watch out. That's their nature. Not sure what to do, I never figured it out. Mines now 11 and at my moms, but still acts like that.

pups have lots of baby teeth. they will need to chew. make sure they have toys that they know they are allowed to chew on, encourge the toys. if the venture off to something off limits, them try discourging them.
as they get older, the puppy teeth will fall out and adult will grow in. make sure they have plenty that they are allowed to chew on

Your pup may be teething at 10 wks...try wetting a washcloth and freezing it. Then give it to your pup to chew on, it'll numb the pain, and it'll give him something to chew on.

♥He is a baby! Mine did that too. He thought he was giving kisses. It stopped as he got a little older. Puppies are soooo adorable!♥
