As a constant pet owner - both dog and cat - I swear by two products.
LESTOIL (Found in the regular house cleaning aisle at the grocery store.)
I pre-treat/wash the stains with Lestoil - an all purpose cleaner. It has a somewhat strong odor but does a very good job of removing the pet odor and the stain - even under black light.
"OUT" - found in every pet store in my Midwest location.
I follow my floor cleaning regimen with an 'as needed' cleaning. I mix it with my normal brand of carpet cleaner when I clean my carpets.
By as needed I mean "monthly". Right now I am down to one cat (the other was recently put down) and two large dogs that love to dig.
Neither of these items is overly expensive considering they work! Trust me - I've tried most of the products available.
Try these choices yourself. They have smaller and economy sized versions.
Whatever you settle on...Stay away from products that use ammonia. Using ammonia based products actually encourage animals to urinate again in that location - contrary to popular belief that is repels.

There are a lot of products out there, some of them work well, some not at all. My personal preference is called "Simple Solution"; it is an enzyme-based product, and supposedly actually breaks down the odor causing molecules. As for the stain, you may have to get a carpet shampoo done, as the urine probably saturated the carpet pad and the floorboard.

I use Nature's Miracle products. It's an enzymatic cleaner that removes all traces of the odor so your pet doesn't smell it's urine in your flooring and pee in the same spot again. They have spot shot cleaners as well as formulas for shampooing an entire rug.

I have trained many a puppy. Almost 20!! We love a lot of dogs!!
I use "Simple Solution" to get the smell out and it foams up on top to clean it too. Remember to pour enough to soak the carpet pad underneath the carpet too or you won't get to the bottom of things!! Good Luck!! Oh yeah, Petsmart, where else? @8=)

I don't know if its the "best" but I've always had great success with OxyClean Carpet Cleaner. Spray it on, leave for a few mins, then return with paper towels and blot out. I've used for doggie diarrhea, urine, and blood, and has worked for all. Hope this helps : )

I've tried all the regular carpet cleaners u can get and they never get it out completely... I got one of those bissel mini carpet steam cleaners and it works great, expecially if u pre-treat the stain with a mixture of baking soda and water.

Urine Gone for the pet stains. It actually gets rid of it through the padding, not mask it like others do.

Simple Solution. It is sold at PetSmart. I have used for awhile and it seems to do the job. It is supposed to break down the bacteria that lingers and can also be used in a steam cleaner.

Vinegar is the best thing plus it is cheap. I don't even bother using anything else anymore because vinegar has been a no fail method for me. Don't worry about the vinegar smell, it goes away
