It's been almost a week, but the dentist told me not to make any sucking motions, like smoking, sucking through a straw, etc. But I have asthma, and I've been having breathing troubles lately. Do you think it'd be safe to take my inhaler?

you could get dry socket from doing that , but I think you have to make that decision, If you really need it than do it, I don't think it would create enough suction to pull out a clot

An inhaler doesn't require the same action as sucking on a straw or a cigarette. The reason you shouldn't use a straw, etc. is because the pressure you create can dislodge the clot, leading to dry sockets. With an inhaler you "squirt" the inhalant and essentially just breathe, you don't suck the medicine from the inhaler. You should be fine.

If you're having an asthma attack, I would advise you to use your inhaler...But, the best way to find out for sure is to call your dentist and specifically ask that question. Many dentists have emergency contact numbers. Hope this helps. . . Good Luck!

Dentists recommend not making sucking motions because it can dislodge the blood clots that your gums need to heal. Without these clots your sockets can become dry. After almost a week, you should be just fine.

it's been a week.. and I would be willing to risk messing up my stiches if I couldn't breathe.

If you need your inhaler, you need it. It's more important that the stiches in your mouth.

Besides your just inhaling.. you're not really sucking on the inhaler.

As others have said, you don't "suck" on the inhaler, you inhale. You'll be fine.
