An onion is a moist veggie that has many layers of watery membranes that react when making contact with the air. Try to cut a onion in the freezer or outside during winter and you will see it "cries" less as will you.

What? What kind of strange question is this? If onions cried, you could say the same about every food that contains water and then there'd be no stopping people! We'd be overrun by Sobbing Spuds, Agitated Asparagus, Blubbering Beetroot, Tempermental Tomatoes, the list would go on and on...

No the onion does not cry but because of the chemicals it releases naturally when cut, you do.
