PDF stands for Portable Document Format.

It was invented by the company Adobe to create a more "paper-less" office environment for the US government.

Essentially, a PDF combines graphics and text (and sometimes video and audio) into a portable format for users.

Adobe Acrobat (which must be purchased) and Adobe Reader (which is free) will both allow you to read a PDF. You can find more information at www.adobe.com.

It is from Adobe. It is a way to send documents (like Microsoft has Word and .doc files, Adobe has the .pdf files)
