It can have a parachute not bigger than a foot (no limit on string length), the protective area around the egg can stick out no more than one inch, and it cannot be boiled.

Here's what we did:

Materials:

1 empty soup can
1 jello mix
1 egg
1 yard of cotton

You wrap the egg in cotton (twice around) and suspend it in jello.

It worked for me when dropped from a distance of 20 feet. The egg didn't break, but my hand was cut up trying to get the egg out.

Don't do the parachute unless it's required. You can't control a parachute and it can just add weight if it's not executed properly.

Try a rammed air chute design, and a shock absorbing rolling chassis. A light weight foam cylinder or ovoid might work. Forward momentum should prevent the shock of landing from directing throght the egg and let it slowly roll to a stop.

We did this at a teambuilding event.......tape the egg...and then if you are provided a straw like we were use the straw as a "tray" if you will. Fold the straw into a square shape and keep the egg nested in it, taped to it. Then parachute it and it should stay.

Freeze it.

Have the one-inch protective area be a plastic bag filled with jell-o or water.
