I do not want anymore americans to die but i dont think that pulling out is an option. Will 20000 more troops only be cannon fodder? or will it make a difference? Some say Iraq needs to step up but looking at the situation from their eye view i can understand why they trust their local militias more than they do their government.

My only suggestion would be to do what the british did in India, literally divide the country in two or even three parts. This may help US troops identify who is fighting who and allow these two govts figure it out. In the Shi'ite area the us keeps a minimum number of troops while in the Sunni area the US keeps its majority of troops, as well as deploying British troops in those areas. This may cause a mass exodus between religious groups but may help stop some of the fighting long enough for the US to pull out and save face.

I do not think that more troops will help our efforts. I think we need to force Iraq goverment to take responsibility for thier country. I dont think we should have gone there but we are there now and we need to do whatever to bring our troops home.

well it seems that dividing them is cause for the extensions of the war.. It is now not between US and Iraq, it has become sectarian war between Sunni, Shi'ite and Kurd.. lots of people keeps dying because of this, the bombing to US soldiers is just minor side effects.. remember, India didnt have lots of sects.. if we want to end these war we should erase the sect differences and blend the Iraqis with each other.. and also there are lots and lots of illegal weapon out there, why dont the US goverment kindly ask for each sect to surrender their weapon? bringing more and more troops will only cause more cannon fodder for the sects and more stolen weapons in the streets

i think your suggestion for dividing the country is probably best, provided at least a good majority of iraqis agree. although it is not a very big country so there would probably still be a lot of cross-border conflict. i don't think 20,000 more troops will do anything. see vietnam and korean war. the dividing seems to work best, like the USSR and Czechoslovakia etc etc.

I do think that Bush may be too proud and hard headed for that, though.

I say we do what we did in Somalia. When things went crazy, we left town. That's what we should do in Iraq. Give them back their country, pack up and go home.

The only people that want to keep troops in Iraq are the ones that have never been there.

besides just more troops, it sounds like he's giving them more freedom to shoot, he says the military 'can't do thier jobs' he's increasing patrols and doing door to door searches.

It depends on your goals, to maintain stability for a govt that you wish to prosper, i think the presidents plan may be in the right direction, swift brutal nazi occupation, role through the streets with apc's, kick doors in and drag out anyone who resists. It's violent and painful but quick like pulling off a bandaid. and then keep a heavy presence on the street to pick off others when they pop thier head out of the rabbit hole. then hand it over to another beauracracy to maintain thier own security and keep the people under threat of the law.

Although more troops may just mean more targets for remote controlled bombs that no one knows who detonated it.

It's now to the point, that ANYTHING we do in Iraq- is too little, too late. A phased withdrawal is our only option. And the longer it takes for that to come about- the more Americans & Iraqi civilians are GOING to die. It's as simple as that. Care to make a bet on what our final death toll will be?- 4- 5- 6,000 American Soldiers? (If we're lucky)

Either we let the Iranian's have the whole middle East (don't worry, the Russians and Red Chinese will flood in later) or we just take a stand against totalitarianism and open up a serious can of whoop-a**.

Get out

Let them chop each other up.

Whoever wins will form a government and be highly visible.

If you don't like the winners, at least they will be visible. Bomb the crap out of them.

Repeat as necessary.
