I have been doing some research on where to buy and I am very confused now. I have found some really great deals but are they too good to be true? Do I need to stay with a know company like Ritzcamera or should I go with an online company who I have never heard of? Please help!!!

With the brick and mortor store you get the product in hand right then. You also get to talk to a person directly. You can also ask "is there anything else I should know?". When we bought ours (rebel XTi) we didn't have a clue that it didn't come with any memory card at all. We went to Kits Camera (its affiliated with Ritz) and we dont regret it. We didn't get the 2 lense kit because we already had the second lens. If you really want to buy online you can go to ritzcamera.com and not pay the local sales tax.

I wouldn't buy from a lesser known website. Especially for the amount you are going to pay.

By the way I found out that the ef-s lens isnt as good as an ef lens of the same quality.

Watch out for any "too good to be true" deal..they probably are. A lot of those online deals are outright scams or some kind of weird deal where they take things out of a box and sell the parts separately, or something similar..you can't win with those places.
Either buy it locally from a store if you can find a good one or else I would suggest 2 online stores with pretty much perfect record for honesty and pricing..both cater to professional photographers and both can be trusted. I buy from both of them..but have no other interests in them. Personally I prefer B&H, but either is a fine place to shop. Ask around on the internet, you will hear good about these 2 stores.

Ritz is good. They have some great store warranties (although I don't know about warranties with DSLR).

If you notice a big change in the price then the place is likely selling a foreign model. These foreign models are cheaper but are considered 'grey market'. Grey market cameras are cameras that are intended for sale outside of the US. I know for a fact that Nikon USA will NOT honor any warranty claim for grey market cameras. Nor will the Nikon factory even attempt repair on a grey market camera. Private shops may because the parts are the same. But no good shop will repair grey market under warranty.

In my personal experience I have found that a lot of east-coast retailers will sell grey market. I guess it's profitable.

I recommend B&H photo (online retailer). They will sell both grey market and non-grey market, but they at least tell you if it's a USA model. They are very often used by private companies (and regular customers) to purchase photography equipment because of their huge selection and prices are similar to local shops.

Yes, a lot of the "too good to be true" deals are exactly that. They either don't have them in stock or they will only sell them if they can jack up the price with things you don't need like $150 1Gb cards and $100 camer bags worth less than $20.

Go to Bizrate.com and only buy from a reputable dealer, one with a lot of positive feedback. After a quick look on there I'd go with Beach Camera, more than 50,000 ratings and their rating over the last 6 months is 98%+ positive.

Haha Cnet.com has a list of reliable stores. I use beachcamera.com. Stay way from sites that are really cheap.
