In General, Sunnis and Shiites don't really fight. Look at mixed countries like India, where they get along relatively well.
Lately, the fighting is confined mainly to Iraq. There's sectarian conflict, because the Sunnis used to rule under the dictatorship of Saddam Hussein, and the Shiite majority took over, and both sides were provoked by the other. It's complicated, both accuse the other of undermining Iraq.

Why do Sunnis and Shias fight? http://www.aljazeera.com/cgi-bin/news_service/article_full_story.asp?service_id=12349#
As Sulayman mentioned above, this usually happens in Iraq and it is mainly political although it is based on religion. The Shias in Iraq have not had a lot of say for a very long time... but now they have much power over the country, with the help of the US. But does it really solve anything?

It isn't actually a cause of muslims. Like usually, it's Jewish people trying to make us look like we're terrorists. They tried to find something to seperate us. I don't really know it, but there was a war or something. Muslims fighting against muslims. Which is really sad because we should be supporting ourselves...
As far as I know, sunnis believe that Abu-Bakr should be the first halifa, but shias beleive its supposed to be Ali.
Hope this helps :)

Shiites believed the rightful heir of Mohamed was his son-in-law, but Sunnis believed Abu Bakr was.

Shia and Sunni both want to lead the pack of moon god worshippes!
~~~~~~~~~
The Great Pretender (Mo.) was born in 570AD or 571AD and died in 632AD.
Mo left no instructions as to which son or whoever should lead the cult after his death.
The Tikrit moon worshipers have been fighting and killing each other over the leadership ever since.
That is 1,375 (?) years....so much for the religion of PEACE !
