The baking powder will give them the firmness and keep them from falling apart when you try to pick them up.
If you look up substitutes/baking powder on the internet, you should find a way to substitute it. Or, you could just knock on your neighbors door. Everyone has baking powder in their cupboard. (Well, everyone but you).
If you don't want to do that, then just press the dough into a 8x8 baking dish, and bake @ 350 degrees for about 20 minutes.
You will have a large cookie/cake. It will be great with ice cream on top.
Good luck on your cookies. You've now made me hungry.

You and your b/f won't like the cookies. But, let's see, for best answer status: If you leave the baking soda out, your oven will come alive and bake you into cookies as you sleep.

It will not hurt the recipe if you do not add baking powder. If you have a dense cookie dough adding baking powder will help to lessen the "hockey puck" effect

Your cookies will not come out soft and chewy.

It will be flat yes, and they might burn. One time I didn't put the baking soda in and it turned out really nasty. They were very hard and didn't fluff up at all like they were supposed to.

Put about 2 times cream of tartar. But if you do not have B. powder you prob. do not have the other. And like you said, WTH. Just make them. If they come out hard, dunk them in something. Wish I were joining you. love um.

With out Baking Powder the cookies wont bake. When you take them out you will find piles of raw dough.

When we're talkin' flat, we're talkin' flat like a dime. And I don't think they'd taste right either. But maybe if you piled five together, that might work! Pick me! Pick me!
