1 John 3: 4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

God sets the mark that his intelligent creatures must reach if they wish to live in harmony with their Creator. Missing that mark, or standard, is what the original languages of the Bible call sin. Sin is, therefore, unrighteousness. It is a failure to conform to God’s definition of right and wrong. Consequently, sin is also a form of disorder, a form of lawlessness.—1 John 5:17; 3:4.

Romans 5:12 That is why, just as through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned—. 13 For until the Law sin was in the world, but sin is not charged against anyone when there is no law. 14 Nevertheless, death ruled as king from Adam down to Moses, even over those who had not sinned after the likeness of the transgression by Adam, who bears a resemblance to him that was to come.

Very good question.

I will have to give it at least a year of though to devise a good answer, so I'll fall back on one a Supreme Court Justice used:

I can't define it, but I know it, when I see it.

Failure to obey or doing wrong or evil, is too simplistic and not defintive enough.

Sin is a way of life you fall into that goes contrary to the ultimate order of things that are equally applied against all.

Adam and Eve did more than just eat the fruit God said not to. Adam blamed it on the WOMAN GOD MADE FOR HIM and EVE blamed it on the SERPENT.

They were caught up in a new way of life that goes contray to the rules we all want applied to us to apply equally amongs all of us.

See, I know it when I see it. DO UNTO OTHERS HAS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO UNTO YOU

NOT do unto others before they do unto you.

Not doing unto others as you would have them do to you is sin.

That's still pretty weak. I'll have to dwell on it a year or more to sharpen my words and concepts.

SIN IS IMPERFECTION

From Adam all are born so imperfect that any thing can happen to any one at any age, life at the best is short and full of troubles until death.

Because of imperfection, other sins can resurt. Gen.8:21; The imaginations of man's heart is evel from from his youth.

We really are innocent as born in sin. Jesus died to purchase us and save us.

"The LAW of God is written on the heart."

Please note that Adam and Eve did not live in sin UNTIL they ate of the Tree of KNOWLEDGE of good and evil. Once they ate they became 'aware' of their nakedness and hid themselves from God. So they where naked, but not aware of it's vileness. Then their 'eyes were opened' and they hid in sin. Knowledge of wrong doing is what causes a sin to be commited. If you believe (truly, you are the only one that knows what you believe) that it is not wrong, then it isn't wrong. Please think on this... think for yourself, read God's word and think for yourself...

It means something you have done wrong purposely. Like instead of good deed, a bad deed you know? a bad thing you have done
