Ever since I was pregnant with my second daughter, and I had very bad morning sickness (vomiting 10-12 episodes a day for almost 5 months) I have been deathly afraid of vomiting and of getting food poisoning. My son is sick with a stomach bug right now and I of course HAVE to help him, but I am washing my hands like a maniac and freaking out inside! Scared to death that I am going to get it! I also compulsively check expiration dates on food to make sure my family or I wont get sick, and I wont eat certain things (even if I want them) because I think it will make me sick! I wanted to go on a cruise so bad, but I am afraid I will get sick on one because of the outbreaks on them! This IS NOT NORMAL! Does anyone else feel this way, if so what the heck do I do about it?? I never used to be like this!

Those pregnancy situations sometimes stay with you for years after.
If you remained alive after vomiting 10+ times a day surely it won't kill you if you become ill .

It's a good idea to watch what you eat and beware of germs but this is now taking over your ability to function.
You should be able to vacation.
Perhaps you need some help? talking to someone who can help you get this back to a more normal concern .
Hey, i always travel with a spray can of Lysol but I do travel.
I wish you the best.

I've always been afraid of vomitting too. In fact, I've seen websites about this. There's actually a scientific term for this fear (which escapes my mind at the moment!) I'm actually surprised you feel this way now, especially after having such an experience. From what I've read, people who fear vomitting rarely do so. In fact, my daughter had that stomach virus last week and eventually I got it too. There was a point when I was going to throw up and forced myself not to. (I don't think this is a good thing) My husband and nephew got it too but unlike me, did throw up. Anyway, its certainly a strange fear in my mind. Some people don't make a big deal about it but my mom said that whenever I threw up as a child, I would cry and jump up and down and basically act like a fool. When my daughter threw up last week, I swear I almost passed out...that's how crazy I am. How to help? I'm sorry, I'm not sure but look for that website and know that you're not alone with this fear!

This is a phobia. The name of it is Emetophobia I believe. I know exactly how you feel. When I was in high school I vowed I would never have children because I feared morning sickness. I now have 3 children. I never got vomit type morning sickness but while having a C-section with my second I got ill. They gave me Zorfran which is an Anti-Emetic. So with my 3rd c-section I asked them to "dope" me up real good with that stuff.
I am a date freak like you also. Don't feel bad this is a tell tale sign of Emetophobics like us. A few years ago I did a search on the internet and found some usefull information and communities devoted to this. Try it.

You may have a bit of OCD. But checking the dates on food items is a good habit to get into. Just don't stress about it so much. I wash my hands often also and carry and use Purell hand sanitizing gel with me and in the car. It doesn't hurt to be careful, but you a going a bit overboard. Chill out.

I would recommend going to your general care doctor and asking to see a therapist. You may have OCD or obsessive compulsive disorder, or an anxiety disorder, both of which are totally treatable.

If you're going to vomit then well...you're going to. You can't really stop it.
