The tree's common name starts with a "U".

Uva-ursi, I believe. It is a type of bearberry. Herbalists crush them and use them in a tea to treat bladder and urinary tract infections.

This has got to be a rose family member, Rosacae, and my guess was a hawthorn, Crataegus sp., I'm not sure about the leaves but there are sooo many species. I've looked through species list of rosacea and found no common names starting with U other than Utah Serviceberry, which this isn't.

Could it be a type of Hawthorn, Genus: Crataegus
I know it's in the Rose Family...
