What are your views about Nihilism?

If you don't know what it is, Nihilism argues that the world, especially past and current human existence, is without objective meaning, purpose, comprehensible truth, or essential value. Nihilists generally assert some or all of the following: there is no reasonable proof of the existence of a higher ruler or creator, a "true morality" is unknown, and secular ethics are impossible; therefore, life has no truth, and no action is known to be preferable to any other.

It's really a non-starter. It doesn't really matter if there is no ultimate meaning, or truth, or essential value. As people, we have value to ourselves.

In a sense, the philosophy is valid. If the Earth were to blow up tomorrow, it really wouldn't matter much to the rest of the universe. Stuff blows up in the universe all the time. There is no inherent good or evil associated with it.

However, morality, value, meaning, and purpose are valid at the personal level. Personally, I don't care if I matter to the universe or if my live will ultimately end and all I've done will rot away. My life matters to me now, and I will try to live my life to its fullest. This is why secular ethics is not only possible, but much superior than ethics based on mythical deities.

Nihilism does not make for a happy society. A little social cement in common values is needed to help a society function.

Yeah. Sounds about right. My views? A possible life view, same as any other. Just depends how you wanna go. Should probably check out Sartre's "bad faith" in conjunction with that though...

Thanks, i don't need to go to a website to see an example -
my views on Nihilism are as follows;
In this world there are millions of groups of people, with varying thoughts, ideals and theories. This particular group is simply one of them. Some people need bricks to fall on their heads in order to believe a wall is in front of them.
If a person demonstrates that strongly a position, they are objectively against the idea of a God being our Creator.
That is everyones personal choice - God wants that choice to be made - thats why we are here in the flesh.
Hey, I for one do not want to go through this nonsense again - so I say, nows the time - if anyone wants to go against God, get on with it - that way we can be done with this flesh life, get rid of those who do not choose to participate in the eternity, and get on with a peaceful existance in the spiritual body.

I don't think much would happen in this religion or group, whatever it is.

I thought it meant that there is no proof of any existance at all. Including you and me. Might as well sit in a corner and stare at your navel.

It seems more intuitive than many religious explanations.

I don't like them. They set my car on fire. They believe in nothing.
