As a waitress only made 9000 for the year with the earned income credit and 2 kids to claim will they refund me more than I paid in federal taxes.

No. The best you can hope for is to have zero tax liability in which case you'll be refunded all the money you paid in.

The earned income credit is a refundable credit, so that means you could get back more than what you put in. The child tax credit is ONLY a refundable credit if you have 3 or more children that qualifies for the child tax credit.

Both the Earned Income Credit and Retirement Contributions credit (for low income contributors) can actually give you a larger tax refund than everything you paid in.

So yes you can get much more back.

Most likely you will get everything back that you paid in, plus some. The EIC, and possibly the additional child tax credit, should give you some extra.
