energy drinks shock your body with large amounts of caffiene, i wouldn't suggest energy drinks but sleep always works. Stick to a studying schedule that allows you to sleep and study and not pull all-nighters.

(Warning: lengthy answer)
An energy drink spikes your blood sugar for about two hours. During these two hours your body starts producing lots and lots of insulin to break the sugars down. After the initial rush wears off you have even less energy than before because your insulin has over processed your blood sugar, leaving you with even less than before you started drinking and making you even more tired. Red Bull and Amp are not study guides. Since the sugar makes you jittery before you crash and the jitters makes it hard to concentrate, they are probably close to the worst thing you could do for studying. (Red Bull and Amp are excellent for driving because most likely you will be off the road by the time your blood sugar dips)
The best thing to do is take a nap, seriously. In addition to being the best cure for sleepiness, there is very strong evidence that the stuff you are trying to memorize while your awake, really takes root in your brain while your asleep (sleep helps you learn faster). ALL NIGHTERS DO NOT WORK. Especially not the night before the exam. Give yourself permission to indulge in the luxury of a full night's sleep the night before. If you don't know the material by then, you won't learn it in a panicked eight hours before the test.
The next best thing to do is to eat VERY well. Avoid junk food and sugary snacks. This is the time for complex carbohydrates, lean proteins, and veggies. They will keep your energy level high. Keep unsalted nuts for a pick-me-up instead of chips. Drink plenty of water.
Food bars can be good substitute for a meal, but avoid the ones with nutritional wrappers that look like they came off a candy bar (the Marathon bar is a no-no)
If you have to use stimulants, try to leave out the sugar. If you don't like coffee try a caffeinated tea. Or if you absolutely, positively have to stay awake, take an Excedrin or other headache medicine (most of them have caffeine) or something like Vivarin (which is pretty much just caffeine). Do this very sparingly though because 1) you will build up a tolerance for caffeine and require increasing amounts to achieve the same effect. And 2) these pills contain ingredients that will damage your liver if taken in excess (NEVER take more than the recommended dose).

Since when did yor friends become the resident experts! Like many other offers of advise, friends don't know much more about it than you do. The energy drink is mainly caffeine and sugar. Neither product in excess is healthy. These drinks act like narcotics in you system, and for you to get the alertness and rid of the tired feeling, you will have to take more and more energy drinks. (Sounds like a junkie.) Though you may feel more alert, your brain is probably having difficulty absorbing the information you are trying to cram in.
You only have one solution - bite the bullet and go to bed. There is only one answer to sleep deprivation. Don't stay up. Get he full amount of sleep your body and brain require. Your mommy was right - get you rest.

YOU SHOULD SLEEP and keep a healthy diet! Drinks lots of water.
Energy drinks are basically sugar and caffeine. All it will do is raise your heart rate and sugar level - that is why you feel ok for a couple of hours - then it will drop fast and your body will slump again.
Exam time is hard I know - been there done that. The best thing is too study - but not too hard so you miss sleep. Eat lots of healthy food, and get enough sleep. Else, you will also get sleepy and lose concentration during exam. Oh Yeah... also - get some "play time" in. This will revitalsie clear your mind and good for your mental health.

Energy drinks are only caffeine and sugar. The energy you get is brief and the let down you'll get from coming off the sugar high will only make you feel worse. Try drinking lots and lots of water and taking brief walks. The exercise will energize you and staying hydrated will keep you from tiring as easy...not to mention the frequent trips to the bathroom. :->

you'd think it would give you more energy, but it doesn't. actually, it will, but only fo about 5 minutes. then you'll b more tired than u were at first. so if you only need 5 minutes, great idea! otherwise, not such a great idea. plus the caffeine in it can get addicting!
