Personally, i don't like little dogs as much as bigger dogs. I am not trying to say that i dislike all little dogs, but i have found in my experience that many of them are more yippy and agressive than larger ones. Again, don't get me wrong; i know many great, sweet and well behaved little dogs. But i just find that medium or large dogs in general are my favorite, because i find them to have great personalities and they are (in my opinion, please don't take offense) cuter.
(i am trying to be very careful about my wording here because i dont want to be mean to any little dogs or their owners! and remember i am not saying that i dislike all of them!)

Well anyways i was just wondering what your opinion is about little dogs and what you like/dislike about them.

I have owned boxers all my life and recently bought a chihuahua. I love her and she is so easy to take care of compared to what i am use to with the bigger dogs. Boxers will always be the love of my life but i will say that i wish i would have had a small breed years ago. They are so cute, and as easy to train as the big ones. When training you have so much less mess, they pee as small as a quarter! and you can also easily use the training pads for them to pee on which is hard to do with a bigger breed. I say if you have a love for dogs in general you will love a smaller breed just as much as the bigger breeds (or med size ones) As far as the yapping goes..mine does not have that problem..if you discourage it it will not happen..if you laugh and encourage it you will have the problem.

I have also been dressing up my chihuahua whcih is something i have never done with the boxers. And i bought a carry bag and take her to the mall with me and every one stops me and says how sweet she is..its just like carrying around a baby!!! lol

My experience has only been positive and my larger dogs love her..they tend to mother her..its been great all around!

My family and I have had more than one little dog:
My older brother had a dachshund
My parents and I had a miniature dachshund
I had both an Austrialian Shepard (med-sz dog), and a mini Schnauzer
I currently am the proud adoptive parent of a mini poodle

I too have a certain fondness for medium dogs such as the Assie shepard, she was a wonderful companion and protector, but I do prefer small dogs

I am not offended you have a right to your opinion and I am glad that you do know some small dogs that you like. You are entitled to your opinion of which sz. of k9 you find preferrable

I say that each person has their dog size, to each their own. Small dogs aren't for everyone, just like large/medium dogs aren't for everyone. As long as your happy with your dog and their type that's great rather it's purebred or mixed, because in the end it's your opinion that matters and your dog.

I had a medium size dog and she was great. She recently passed away. She was a poodle mix. She was great for apartment life and well mannered. She passed away about a week ago.

I also have a toy dog (miniature pinscher) and yes she's a barker and no she's not agressive. But she is definately protective of me and her territory which is good for me in my living situation. I went with her because I am familiar with the breed as well as their personalities.

There are several reasons why I would not own a large dog one being my size and toy they're not great for aparment life here (seriously have you seen what they pass off as apartments in Boston). My boyfriend has a boxer and I love him to death, but in the end I am would not be able to provide the care needed for in in case of an emergency (carrying him to the car) or during his old age (carrying up the stairs to get a bath or up/down the stairs to pee/poop).

Like I said to each their own. We all have opinions about the many dog breeds/sizes out there today.

In general, I prefer medium to large dogs. Not very little, because to me they just aren't too cute. I think it's because my grandmother had small dogs, and they were the nastiest little things ever. But the large dogs I had as a child were wonderful.

I think little dogs suffer from the same problem that pit bulls suffer from-ignorant owners who don't care to learn how to properly train the dog. Next time you see a yippy annoying little dog-look to the owner with derision, not the dog.

I like a good dog, big little or small.

I agree, I have a small cockier spaniel and she is somewhat temperamental, but I adore her. My father had boxers and pits growing up, and from what I can remember they were alot friendlier. I just couldn't do the up keep,of a bigger dog, so I opted for petite and pretty, like me-LOL *** Not to mention I live with a non-animal lover, that's another issue all together, but size counts in his book....hummm I guess I should say that to him!

I have both big dogs and little dogs. Little dogs can be very nippy and yippy and aggresive................But thats to people they don't know. Thier kinda like the jeckel and hyde of dogs, split personalitys. Very loving and playful with the family ( sometimes they tend to get attached to just one person) But totally different with strangers, but look at them , they have to put on a act their so little so they put on a front to scare people. They sure can't scare people with their size. They are very personal dogs and thats why people like them, get one i think you'd be surprised.

I find medium dogs a nice size. i think they are a little less hyper then little dogs and a little more hyper than big dogs. Also they work great inside and out. i know someone who has a dog who is 4 feet tall! (thats from the head to the ground) and he i just too big for me and dogs that are too little are sometimes hard to find around the house!!

Everyone has their own opinion of what size of dog they like, or the type of dog or even if they like dog or cat better...That is human nature.

For my husband and I we have our own different opinions of what kind of dogs are best.

My husband likes large dogs...he wants a Alaskan Husky...Me even though I loved the one we used to have...she was too nice and wouldn't protect me for nothing...If someone broke in to steal anything Keiko would most likely show him the best things to steal and help take the load out to the car...lol...

For me a Min Pin was the best...He would protect me with his life...My nephew when he reached age 18 came to stay with us and got mad at me for something and hit me...Buddy tore into his face and wouldn't let go till I said "enough Buddy" Chris never laid a hand on me again around Buddy...lol...

Again everyone has their own opinion...I am sure there are Alaskan Huskys out there that will do what Buddy done...and maybe there are Min Pins out there that will do what Keiko has done...

i have a little dog and he is a toy Yorkshire and he is very cute. he cost a lot of money and he was worth it. the only problem is that he is very hyper and loves to play. and a good thing bout little dogs is that their poop is very small so their is really nothing to worry about when it comes to that but some times i do wish i had a bigger dog (that's only some times not all tha time)
