What's the #1 reason you choose to be decieved in thinking there IS a God?

If there was a God.. why is there so much suffering around the world.. starvation, natural disasters, innocent people dying...

Why would this "amazing" being - let all of this happen to these innocent people?

My christian friend told me that, it's so some people can have a great time in heaven.. or something along those lines..

What is the point of that persons life then? Say a kid in africa.. what is the point in that kids life, constant starvation, diseases, terrorism, just so he will be happy when he dies...?!?!

It makes no sense..

Also like saying God created animals and humans and the world... there is no proof of God... although there is scientific proof..

I believe there is *something* out there.. but i don't believe it's the God everyboy believes in...

I’m not an Atheist, but I think their no. 1 answer will be 'lack of proof' which is a very good reason, I might add. If you do not 'know' or if you cannot see the truth or hear the truth then it does not matter what that truth might be. What is the 'proof' for any believer? Do you think anyone really 'chooses' to be deceived? That would severely contradict 'deception'.

Considering when I was a christian my #1 reason for believing was the fact that I didn't know any better I would have to say my #1 reason for being an atheist is that now I understand that god isn't a possible concept.

I was decieved by my parents, who initiated me into my atheist ways during a ceremony at birth.

Then I was homeschooled, so none of those Christian beliefs polluted my little brain. I was given a book - only one. It was an autobiography of Bertrand Russell.

I have heard of this Bible thing, but have been forbidden to read it.

So, I believe what I believe because I know nothing else.

Satisfied?

well, in my opinion religion is a way to make yourself be good and to explain life. i can be good without having to believe in god. science exists purely to explain life.

What's your number 1 reason for being deceived that there is no Cthulhu? Didn't you know that Christianity was merely a test to weed out the true believers in the Great Old Ones?
People believe what they believe because that is what calls to them and makes sense to them. Believe in God if you want, and I'll respect that. What galls me is your arrogance.

Let's see how you like having the same question asked of you, using similar wording.

What's the #1 reason you choose to be deceived in thinking there IS a god?

Your question presupposed that I have been deceived, and is such is more of a statement of your beliefs than a question about mine. If you could ask in a more objective manner, perhaps I would be more inclined to answer it, instead of pointing out that you have spelled "atheist" incorrectly.

I was not deceived in any manner. I actually opened my eyes, read the bible, read many other religious books, read various books on other subjects, reflected on this, and came to the decision on my own. This took place over the course of my life. I questioned the validity of religion from a very young age. Faith is a notion I was not keen on following. I want to see things in front of me. I want to understand why a,b,c,d,e = f. I will not accept things on faith.I want to see reason, facts, results, and basically proof.
