As with most countries, there can be racism. There is a long history of racism towards Australian aboriginals (the attempted genocide of aboriginals when the English invaded Australia).

Things have really improved. Most Australians have an understanding of Aboriginal history and culture.

I think that some racism is more about ignorance (like a previous answer that used the word 'abo' - this is a very offensive term).

If you are friendly. relaxed and prepared to help out a mate - most Aussies that I know will like you (no matter what your sking colour).

Australia is a very multicultural society and, as a proud Australian I firmly believe the majority of Australians are not racist towards black people. Marcia Hines is one of the favourite judges from Australian Idol and she is black. Quite a few years ago, black people had less rights in Australia, but now that has changed and a black Austalian citizen has the same rights as a white Australian citizen.

As a general rule, the answer to this is no it is not true!!!! Australia has a pretty long history of multiculturalism and immigration and is made up of people from many nations and is generally a tolerant nation. There have been and will continue to be issues based around the indigenous people of Australia but this is an ongoing problem that does not come from 'Australian not liking black people'. Unfortunately, as with all countries and poeple of all backgrounds, racism is present in a small minority of sad people with even smaller minds.

I saw a Tom Selleck movie a while back where his character was hired to hunt down and kill the aboriginals of Australia for a rancher. He refused and was nearly killed himself. I figure the movie was based on real live events of early Australian ranchers killing off the indigenous people simply because they wanted to.

Like the Black vs White issues we have in the US, they have the White vs Aboriginal issues there. Abo's have thier own law's that sometimes go against "White Man's Law" and they still live by thier tribal rules. But the racism there is not the same as it is in America.
