I was dating this woman who'd broken up with her man, who asked a friend of mine if she knew me and what I was like. She told him that if I was after his lady I was "probably going to get her" and I "work very fast." The dude stalked me for weeks and jumped on me at Happy Hour!! Why would my so-called friend tell a rejected man such things?

She probably wanted attention, either from you or from him.

Maybe she wanted to get the other lady out the picture so she could have a chance at you herself. So she put her ex on you to scare you off from her but instead it went the other way.

sounds like your friend isn't very much of a friend to betray u and tell this man things that caused u to get beaten. maybe your friend is jelous of u, and wants to see u get hurt. they are not a friend. the man is dangerous, and your friend put u in grave danger.

Obviously your "friend" isn't your friend. And it seems this ex boyfriend was not over this lady, or he has issues with jelousy and anger management problems.
"I can take care of my enemies, but God protect me from my friends".
That's a good rule to live by.
