Which are the common and deathly ones?...this is so gross and it's kind of freaking me out. So I want to know about them so I can keep my health clean and safe =S

A parasite is simply an organism that lives by feeding off of another, whether it harms the host or not in the process.

Worms can be types of parasites.

e.g. Giardia lamblia would be an example of a parasite that is not a worm, whilst Ancylostoma duodenale (hookworm) would be an example of a parasitic worm.

This is what I remember from biology....

Worms (tape worms from meat, trichinosis from pork) comes from raw and undercooked meat. Make sure to always good your meat to the recommended temperature. Parasites can come from tainted water or unwashed produce. They usually cause stomach flu-type symptoms.

The reason that you don't know a lot about them? They are rare! So don't spend a lot of time freaking out about them and just practice safe food handling and hand washing practices and you should be fine.

I am sure webmd goes into it better than I do.

Parasites are very small living creatures that can grow into worms that are many feet long.

Make sure you are eating fully cooked foods, and your chances of getting worms or parasites will be fairly low.

Stay away from sushi or rare meats.

Because of the subject at hand you should only ask your physician. Period. Good Luck.
