where the aborigines still live much as their ancestors did, or have they caught up with civilization? It seems as though pretty much everywhere on the planet the outside world has infiltrated in some degree or other.

It seems to me sometimes the so-called "progress" would be best left out of some of the simpler worlds many have enjoyed for centuries.

There are a few nomadic tribes living in the Western desert that still hunt and live as they have done since the introduction of the whites. They do not claim welfare and have very littele contact with anyone.
They are relatively shy and avoid travellers.
There are also closed areas of australia that are like reservations where a permit is required to enter the area. This is to allow some tribes to live their lives without interference from the outside as much as possiblle. However in many of these areas there is levels of introduced civilization like Ipods, cars, and semi portable housing.

There are aboriginal people that are still very connected to the land and their ancestory. They still follow the ancient beliefs of their ancestors. However, I do not think that there are any Aboriginals that live exactly as they did hundreds of years ago. Even the most traditional aboriginals will wear modern clothes and send their children to school.

No offense taken at all - it was a good question!

Hi, your best bet would be to go into the Northern Territory. Although to be honest they don't really live the way their ancestors did anymore. You can probably do tours where they show you how they used to live but I very much doubt you'd find any who live that way.

I think they might be in Arhnem Land (NT), but not to the extent before European settlement 200 years ago.
